The Carlyle Group's portfolio company sustainability profile

Overview

From 2021, Ever worked closely with The Carlyle Group's EMEA ESG team to support its portfolio companies to build out their sustainability strategies, from materiality to reporting and communications.

We enjoy working within the private equity world, which has an outsize market-making role on sustainability. Many portfolio companies are not subject to the same regulations as listed businesses, which gives them an opportunity to evaluate and build out their sustainability activity as a business proposition rather than a regulatory practice. With so much investment in green transition start ups, the private equity world is an exciting space where we do a lot of innovative work.

How we worked together

We have worked with Carlyle Group portfolio companies including: Flender, a Siemens spin-out gear manufacturing business that is oriented towards wind and renewables; Dainese, a leading motorwear and protection garment company; and Forgital, a metals forging business, on sustainability health checks, ambition setting and reporting. We always start with a close-in ambition session with the senior team to understand its drive towards sustainability and its embedding within the business. From this we help shape key strategic pillars, plan umbrella strategies and develop reporting that is compelling for its wide range of stakeholders. Often, private equity portfolio companies work with us on their very first sustainability report and we also help them think about IPO readiness and planning wider communications.
